DIFFICULTY: Easy
Flaky white fish seasoned with Sunset Sazón meets a cool, crisp citrus slaw in these bright Florida-inspired tacos. Warm spices, fresh lime, and crunchy vegetables make this an easy taco-night favorite with plenty of flavor in every bite.
INGREDIENTS
FOR THE FISH
- 1½ lbs firm white fish
- 2 Tbsp Sunset Sazón
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- Juice of ½ lime
FOR THE CITRUS SLAW
- 2 cups shredded cabbage
- ½ cup shredded carrots
- 2 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp fresh lime juice
- 1 tsp honey
- Pinch of Sunset Sazón
FOR SERVING
- 8 small flour or corn tortillas, warmed
- Fresh lime wedges, optional
- Fresh cilantro, optional
DIRECTIONS
- Make the Citrus Slaw. In a medium bowl, combine the shredded cabbage and carrots. Add the mayonnaise, lime juice, honey, and a pinch of Sunset Sazón. Toss until evenly coated, then set aside while you prepare the fish.
- Prep the fish. Pat the fish thoroughly dry with paper towels. Lightly brush both sides with olive oil and season generously with Sunset Sazón.
- Cook the fish. Grill or pan-sear over medium-high heat for 3–4 minutes per side, depending on thickness, until the fish is opaque and flakes easily. Finish with the juice of ½ lime.
- Warm the tortillas. Warm the tortillas on the grill or in a dry skillet until soft and pliable.
- Build the tacos. Break the cooked fish into large pieces and divide among the warm tortillas. Top each taco with Citrus Slaw.
- Serve. Finish with fresh cilantro and an extra squeeze of lime, if desired, and serve immediately.
SHORE TIP
Choose a fish that can take the heat. Grouper, mahi-mahi, snapper, or cod all work well here. Look for firm fillets that will hold together on the grill or in the skillet, and avoid overcooking—the fish should stay moist and flake into big pieces for the tacos.
PAIR WITH
Cilantro Lime Rice · Black Beans · Salsa · Avocado
Cilantro lime rice and black beans make these tacos a complete meal, while fresh salsa and avocado add cool, creamy contrast to the warm spices and citrus slaw.
MAKE IT YOUR OWN
Make it a bowl. Skip the tortillas and serve the seasoned fish over cilantro lime rice with black beans, Citrus Slaw, avocado, and salsa.
Fire up the grill. Grill the fish for a little extra char, then warm the tortillas directly on the grates before assembling.
Swap the protein. Sunset Sazón works just as well with shrimp or chicken. Adjust the cooking time as needed for your protein.
Add some heat. Top the tacos with sliced jalapeño or your favorite hot sauce if you want a little extra kick.
